Artist Research Project

This is a short research paper about an artist and a painting by the artist. You will use the resources listed in this guide to begin, but more information may be obtained from the library catalog and the Internet to research a painting and incorporate an individual response about the artwork, the artist’s background, and the artist’s artistic influences. DUE:

Information to include:

  1. Name of artist and artist biography, which includes interesting facts and personal information about the artist.
  2. Art period the artist is known for participating or making the greatest contribution (example- Post Impressionism, Impressionism, Renaissance, Surrealism, Pop Art etc...?)
  3. Who/what were the artist’s influences and/or inspirations for the creation of the painting? (other artists? War? Poverty? Dreams? etc...)
  4. Give the credit line, which should include the title of the painting, where the painting is located, size, medium and/or materials, and date. This information should be on the Works Cited page.

  • Start with this guide and Wikipedia as a springboard for critical thought and as a tool to find additional resources
  • Use or Google Art to find a painting by the artist you are researching. Choose one painting to research.
  • Browse the PSU book and eBook Library and use at least one eBook as a resource
