Hi Ashley, thanks for your question. That feature would be awesome for our catalog. Since we don't have it now though, you can get this accomplished by viewing the item in WorldCat and clicking "Cite/Export":

http://www.worldcat.org/oclc/84152951&referer=brief_results

(FYI, WorldCat is a "one-stop" catalog incorporating the collections of all libraries that subscribe to its service. For more, see http://www.worldcat.org/whatis/default.jsp)

Melissa: Yes, our InterLibrary Loan office can help you. Please feel free to contact them at the link above. I will also pass along your request to them, so they can contact you.

Graduate students who are not close to campus can receive items delivered to them. Thanks for your question.

Hi Gary,

You were so efficient at resolving the problem with the McPherson book that I am hoping you will be able to resolve my most recent problem. I intend to show the film "Martha Ballard's Diary" to my students in a few weeks. Although listed as available in the catalog, the student working at the information desk and I, earlier today, could not locate it on the shelves. Is this something you would be able to assist me with?

@Alice - Thank you for the question. To find the answer, I looked at the MARC view for this item and saw that "Cross-cultural comparison" is listed in field "650" with an indicator of "22". According to the Library of Congress, this denotes a "secondary" subject heading of the category "Medical Subject Headings". So, it is not a Library of Congress subject heading. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Harris' harsh treatment of the mainstream religions has offended many. In that sense, he and his fellow "new atheists" do a disservice to themselves. Harris condemns moderate faith for, he says, giving cover to extremists. The Bible, he says, is not moderate. His redeeming points include his talent for the intellectual exercise. Through thought experiments, he reduces many arguments by the faithful to wishful thinking. His most valuable argument is this: religious ideas ought to be discussed on their merits. No one's faith is exempt from rational inquiry. He thus takes a traditionally religious tack by arguing for a universal truth. One that can be revealed through reason and rigor, not scripture and prayer. Scientists, then, should not cede the mystical ground to faith; much can be learned about the human brain (for one) by exploring trances, meditation, and altered states of consciousness.
