Opposing Viewpoints in Context is an online, full-text database covering a wide variety of hot topics, such as the Death Penalty, Gun Control, Genetic Engineering, Censorship, Endangered Species, and Terrorism.

Opposing Viewpoints in Context is an engaging online experience for those seeking contextual information and opinions on hundreds of today’s hottest social issues. Drawing on the acclaimed Greenhaven Press series, the new solution features continuously updated viewpoint articles, topic overviews, full-text magazines, academic journals, news articles, primary source documents, statistics, images, videos, audio files and links to vetted websites organized into a user-friendly portal experience.

It is an electronic enhancement of the print series titled Opposing Viewpoints, published by Greenhaven Press, of which Lamson Library now holds more than 380 separate titles. While the books contain only pro-con “Viewpoint” essays, the Opposing Viewpoints in Context database includes more than 14,000 pro-con Viewpoint essays, and also includes more than 5,000 topic overviews, nearly 6,000 statistical tables/charts/graphs, more than 775 court-case overviews, and a total of approximately 5 million periodical articles. It is also possible to limit your search for articles to just “Academic Journals”, which will produce articles from peer-reviewed journals. Both the online database and the print series are most valued for collecting pro and con articles, editorials, and speeches showing “opposing viewpoints” on various controversial subjects.
