Accessing Library Ebooks

Learn how to access ebooks from Lamson Library, and how to download them to your computer or mobile device.

Access ebooks while offline

There are many different ways to save an ebook so it can be accessed without an internet connection. The easiest are listed first.

  • Save a group of pages in PDF format to your computer
  • Email a group of pages to yourself
  • Print a set of pages
  • Download the entire book to your computer
  • Download the entire book and send it to your tablet or phone.

Not all ebooks support saving, emailing, or printing. When in doubt, contact us.

Save pages as a PDF

Save a section of the book on your computer, in PDF format. 

  • Navigate to the page where you want to start the section to be saved.
  • Click the Save Pages link along the top of the screen. A box will expand for entering details.
  • The amount of pages that can be saved at one time will vary. In this example, 100 pages can be saved at one time.
  • Choose one of the three options to email a group of pages, highlighted below. Be careful to stay within the noted limits. In this example, the current page and the next 20 pages will be saved.
  • Click Save PDF to save the PDF to your computer.

Email pages of a book

Email a group of pages from the book in PDF format. 

  • Navigate to the page where you want to start the section to be emailed.
  • Click the E-mail Pages link along the top of the screen. A box will expand for entering details.
  • The amount of pages that can be emailed at one time will vary. In this example, 100 pages can be emailed at one time.
  • Choose one of the three options listed to email a group of pages, highlighted below. Be careful to stay within the noted limits. In this example, the 10 pages in this section (Chapter 7) will be emailed.
  • Fill in your email address and a subject in the fields highlighted below.
  • Click E-mail PDF to send your pages to the email address you entered in the form.

Print pages of a book

Follow the instructions for Save Pages as a PDF. After saving the PDF to your computer, you can open the file and print it.

Download the entire book

If the book's length exceeds the number of pages allowed for saving as a PDF, you can download the entire book to read later on your computer, tablet, or phone. Please see the instructions in this guide for Preparing to Download Ebooks before you begin.

When you are ready, click the Download This eBook (Offline) link, highlighted below.

  • Choose the amount of days you'd like to have access to the book, up to 30 days.
  • If given a choice, choose to download an EPUB (see below). Unlike with a PDF file, the text in an EPUB file will reflow to fit your screen.
  • Click Checkout & Download.

You'll receive this message:

The eBook was checked out successfully.

A file will also download to your computer.

  • If you want to read the book on your computer and you have Adobe Digital Editions installed, open Adobe Digital Editions to access the book.
  • If you want to read the book on your tablet or phone, you don't even need to save the downloaded file. The book is checked out to you and can be accessed via the My EBSCOhost app on your tablet or phone.

Kindle users, take note

Kindle Fire users

  • Use the browser on your Kindle Fire and follow the instructions above.
  • You will be prompted to Download to Bluefire Reader.
  • After the eBook is finished downloading, select Go To Library if you want to see eBooks on your Fire or Read Now to open your eBook and begin reading.

Other Kindle users

Send your saved EBSCO eBook pages in PDF format to any Kindle.
