Banned Books Week 2006

Did you know that in 2005, there were 405 attempts to remove books from the shelves of U.S. public and school libraries? That’s more than a book a day! Banned Books Week in 2006 marks the 25th anniversary of its celebration of the freedom to read.

Robie Harris’ teen book It’s Perfectly Normaltopped the list of most challenged books in 2005. Banned Books Week is sponsored, in part, by the American Library Association Freedom to Read Foundationand the National Coalition Against Censorship.
