Physical reserves

Click here to place items on physical reserve

Physical reserves are available for students to pick up at the information desk.

Faculty members may place any library materials or personal copies of items on reserve for their classes. You may designate a Reserve loan period for two hours, four hours, one day, or three days. Personal items will be processed according to reserve procedures and will be marked to identify them as reserve materials. The library will not assume responsibility for replacing worn, damaged, or missing items.

Deadlines for Submitting Reserve Materials
Semester Undergrad Grad
Fall Semester August 15th August 15th
Winter Session December 15th November 15th
Spring Semester January 15th February 15th
Summer Sessions May 15th May 15th

After these deadlines, the library requires at least 48 hours from receipt of the material for processing before it will be available to students. This timeline may be extended during the first two weeks of a semester.

Reserve materials may include books, reports, scores, audio or video recordings, DVD’s, etc. in compliance with Federal Copyright Laws. Articles and chapters of books must be submitted for electronic reserve first (see the information below), before they will considered for physical reserve.

In order to comply with these copyright regulations, the following policies will be enforced.

  1. All articles will be stamped with a copyright notice along with any information the library deems necessary for organization purposes.
  2. Materials may be placed on reserve for the current semester only. A new copy of the article must be submitted each semester the article is needed. If the faculty member sends an article that has been previously marked by the library with the copyright notice, it will be returned to the faculty member.
  3. Only one photocopy of an article may be placed on reserve.

A completed reserve form must accompany each reserve item requested by the faculty member.

Reserve materials will be returned to the library shelves or to the faculty member at the end of the semester.

Questions about Physical Reserves should be directed to the Information Desk at 535-2832 or you may Ask the Infodesk here.

Electronic Reserves

Faculty may request to have supplemental class readings and other course material made available to their students electronically. Material placed on electronic reserve is subject to Federal Copyright Laws. Library staff will obtain the copyright permissions and insert your documents into Blackboard. This process may take a few days or more than a week, depending on when we receive the permissions.

Guidelines for Electronic Reserves:

  1. Please use the Electronic Reserve Request Form
  2. Submissions must be filled out completely (we need this information for Copyright Clearance ). If we don’t have all the information we need, your request will be returned to you
  3. On the ereserve request form we ask for the “File Name.” That is the name that we will give the document that we scan for you. Please identify them in the same manner as on your syllabus.
  4. We can only use original, licensed copies of works-either purchased or owned by the institution or instructor. When submitting new ereserve requests please supply us with your copy of the original journal or book if it is not owned by Lamson Library. Books or journals can be mailed to the library to the attention of Joyce Bruce (MSC#47) or dropped off at the Information Desk with a copy of the online form attached or left off at the Interlibrary Loan office (Room 112). When we are finished with your book we will leave it on the Information Desk hold shelf for you to pick up at your convenience.
  5. EACH semester BEFORE the material can be put on ereserves. Obtaining copyright permissions can take anywhere from a day to a few weeks. Please plan accordingly. Ereserve requests are processed in the order in which they are received.
  6. We cannot copy more than 10% of a given work.
  7. All material placed on ereserves must be removed from Blackboard at the end of the semester. You are responsible for removing your ereserves.
  8. Towards the end of each semester we will be sending you a list of all ereserve requests you have submitted for the current and previous semesters. At that time, we will be asking you to check off those that you would like us to put back on for the following semester. You will not need to fill out a new form for material that has previously been placed on ereserves.
  9. Please direct your questions to jbruce@plymouth.edu or x2576
