Finding Children’s Books in the Library Catalog

On the main library website, click on Advanced Search in the Search the Library box.

On the Advanced Search screen, type in the name of your theme (i.e. food) in the first box and use the pull down menu to search by KEYWORD.

Scroll down to limit your search by Audience.  Select Juvenile.

Click on Search.

Note: You may wish search the name of your theme as SUBJECT to get fewer results.

Interlibrary Loan

If you need a book or article that PSU does not have you can request the article through Interlibrary Loan.  

This service is free to all PSU students, faculty, and staff.

  • Go to the Interlibrary Loan Page.
  • On the left side of the screen, under New Request choose the material type you want, then fill out the request form.
  • Articles are delivered to your interlibrary loan account in PDF format, usually in 2-5 business days.
  • Books are delivered to Lamson and can be picked up at the information desk in 1-2 weeks.

Create a My EbscoHost Account

Create your own personalized account so that you can save (and find again easily!) those terrific articles you found for your paper or project.  You can also save your search terms and create an Alert where EBSCO notifies you via email when a new article on your topic has been published.  

Follow the instructions below for creating your own account.

Follow These Easy Steps

Open one of the EBSCO databases (i.e. Academic Search Premier, SportDiscus)


Click on SIGN IN located at the top of the screen.


Click on the Create a New Account link located in the sign in box.  Your free registration is quick and easy.  Once you have created an account or logged in, you will see a yellow ribbon with the word MY across the EBSCOhost logo.


Click on Folder link at the top of the screen to see your previously saved articles and searches.

Finding Books on the Historical Aspect of Children's Literature

Click on ADVANCED SEARCH within the Library Catalog box.

Use the pull-down menu to change your search type to SUBJECT.

In the search box type one or both of these SUBJECT headings.

Finding Books on Folktales

From the main library website, use the search below.  You will get about 700 records.

You may also want to try ADVANCED SEARCH.  Use the SUBJECT terms TALES or FOLKTALES and limit to audience JUVENILE to get books from the children's literature collection.
