Kimberly Anderson Ritchie is the Coordinator of Printmaking and Assistant Professor here at Plymouth State University. She received her Masters of Fine Art in Printmaking from Colorado State University and her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Appalachian State University. Recently Ritchie created a collaborative children’s book at the North Carolina Museum of Art, completed several Artist Residencies, and is exhibiting her work nationally and internationally.
Ritchie’s curiosity, love, and respect for the natural environment has directed her artwork, which focuses on an array of environmental issues. The work showcased focuses on global climate change and the impacts on lichen. When one change happens in the environment, it affects another even if it is on the opposite side of the globe. Lichen is a silent witness to the effects of global climate change; being a small, fragile, many times overlooked but crucial part of the eco-system, it quietly documents its environmental changes. This work is bringing our attention to the fragileness of our changing environment.
