Library Materials

We offer many ways to get the materials you need. We can purchase items for our collection, fulfill your interlibrary loan requests, create course reserves for you, and help you link to articles from our databases. If there's anything more we can do to help, please contact us.

Purchasing Materials

We purchase books, journals, videos, and other library items to support teaching and scholarship. Please contact a librarian to get the conversation started.

Using InterLibrary Loan

Acess InterLibrary Loan: Check the status of an ILL request, download ILL items, etc.

Students, faculty, and staff can borrow items the library does not have via interlibrary loan (ILL). The most common ILL items are books, journal articles, and DVDs/Blurays, but you can request other materials like music scores, dissertations, etc. Not all ILL requests can be fulfilled, but we try our best to find a library that can fulfill each one.

Physical items are typically delivered to Lamson within a week, where you can pick them up. The lending library sets the due date and other borrowing terms. Digital items usually arrive to you via email within a few days.

If you find a book we do not have while searching the library, you can request it via ILL with the appropriate button:

If you see this link in one of our databases, click it to look for full-text. If no full-text is found, you will be able to request it via ILL:

Course Reserves

Course reserves are either physical or digital materials made specially available for specific classes at the request of the instructor.

Request Forms:

Electronic Reserve For reserves that will be digital, most likely destined for Canvas. (Opens in Microsoft Forms)
Physical Reserve For reserves in physical form, such as books and DVDs. These will be available at the library's circulation desk.

Physical Reserves

Physical reserve request form: We try to answer requests within 3 days

Books, DVDS, and other reserve materials are shelved behind the Lamson Information Desk, where students can borrow them for a few hours or days. This helps save students time and money while ensuring the whole class has an opportunity to use the materials.

If you own the reserve item, you can drop it off at the Lamson Information Desk.

Electronic Reserves

E-reserves allow the library to make course materials available to whole classes legally, affordably, and conveniently. We pay the copyright fee and digitize the material (often a book chapter or journal article) so you, the instructor, can post it digitally in Canvas. We can e-reserve about 10 percent of a book. It can take a few days up to a couple weeks to get copyright clearance, so please plan ahead.

Linking to Articles

For any of the hundreds of thousands of journal articles and ebooks the library has access to, you can usually skip the reserves process and simply provide a link in your Canvas course.

Getting Article Links

Because database access is restricted to our students, faculty, and staff, it's necessary to get the right link to paste in Canvas, your syllabus, email, etc, when you want to link to an article.

Different databases handle this differently. Below you'll find the most common ones.

Remember: if you don't see a "permalink" or "stable URL" option in a database, try copying the address in the browser's address bar. To make sure it works, simply paste it into different browser than the one where you copied it.

EBSCO Permalinks

When you want to share an EBSCO article, look for the "Permalink" icon (see figure 1).

Click the Permalink button on the right
Right-click the URL and select "copy"
You can then paste the permalink where you want to share it

JSTOR Stable URLs

In JSTOR articles, you will see a stable URL beneath the article title (figure 2).

Simply highlight the URL, right click, and copy it
You can then paste the URL in Canvas, email, or other location

Nexis Uni Copy Document Link

To obtain a link to a Lexis Nexis article:

Choose "Actions" and then "Link to this page" (figure 3)
