Library Materials

We offer many ways to get the materials you and your students need. We can purchase items for our collection, fulfill your interlibrary loan requests, create course reserves for you, and help you link to articles from our databases. If there's anything more we can do to help, please contact us.

Purchasing Materials

We purchase books, journals, videos, and other library items to support teaching and scholarship. Please contact Alissa Helms to get the conversation started.

Using InterLibrary Loan

Acess InterLibrary Loan: Check the status of an ILL request, download ILL items, etc.

Students, faculty, and staff can borrow items the library does not have via interlibrary loan (ILL). The most common ILL items are books, journal articles, and DVDs/Blurays, but you can request other materials like music scores, dissertations, etc. Not all ILL requests can be fulfilled, but we try our best to find a library that can fulfill each one.

Physical items are typically delivered to Lamson within a week, where you can pick them up. The lending library sets the due date and other borrowing terms. Digital items usually arrive to you via email within a few days.

Course Reserves

Course reserves are either physical or digital materials made specially available for specific classes at the request of the instructor.

Books, DVDS, and other reserve materials are shelved behind the Lamson Information Desk, where students can borrow them for a few hours or days. This helps save students time and money while ensuring the whole class has an opportunity to use the materials.

If you own the reserve item, you can drop it off at the Lamson Information Desk.

Electronic Reserves

E-reserves allow the library to make course materials available to whole classes legally, affordably, and conveniently. We pay the copyright fee and digitize the material (often a book chapter or journal article) so you, the instructor, can post it digitally in Canvas. We can e-reserve about 10 percent of a book. It can take a few days up to a couple weeks to get copyright clearance, so please plan ahead.

Linking to Articles

For any of the hundreds of thousands of journal articles and ebooks the library has access to, you can usually skip the reserves process and simply provide a link in your Canvas course. As long as you accessed the article starting from the library website, the URL in your browser's address bar will work for your students.
