This searchable website serves as the official kids' portal to the U.S. government. Provides access to additional commercial, non-commercial, nonprofit and educational websites that can be used to teach children how to determine the sponsor of a website.
Ben's Guide to U.S. Government for Kids
This resource addressed how the government works, how to use primary source materials, and citizenship. Visually attractive for the younger student, the site offers a section for teens.
Central Intelligence Agency Kids Page
Although there is a section for teens, the language on this website will be user-friendly for a variety of school-aged students. Educator resources included.
U.S. Department of Agriculture for Kids
A valuable site for information on agriculture. Also included are resources on food and nutrition, including recipes.
Federal Trade Commission's You Are Here Website for Kids
A site devoted to making students better consumers.
National Gallery of Art Kids
Filled with many interactive games, the website also offers teacher resources.
Energy Kids

Great Sites for K-12 and National History Day Projects

National Archives
A premier resource for exploring United State documents, photos, and records. Don't forget checking the archives of other countries, if needed.
National Archives Experience: Digital Vaults
Users can search a smaller subset of National Archives photos and create their own lists. A suitable addition, although not recommended as a substitute for looking at the actual National Archives.
Library of Congress
You can do so much on this website! Search the online catalog, look for primary source documents, find texts of bills and laws, treaties, etc.
Central Intelligence Agency
The site offers information on the CIA offices, satellite offices, news, and a library of publications. A Kids' Zone is also available for children and parents/educators.
The World Factbook
A subset of the CIA website, this site provides information on the history, people, government, economy, geography, communications, transportation, military, and transnational issues for over 200 countries. Great maps are included.
National Park Service
Provides detailed information about U.S. national parks as well as movies, webcam content, podcasts, and photo galleries of the American history, culture, and famous people. Also includes funding opportunities such as grants for preservation and development of outdoor recreation facilities.
U.S. Department of State
Excellent source for current news and information on countries and regions.
U.S. Census Bureau
Contains history, state facts, and population statistics for states and cities in the United States.
HarpWeek
Contains indexed content of Harper's Weekly for the dates 1857 to 1916.
U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum
This site provides a wealth of information including many primary resource documents. Also includes the Holocaust Encyclopedia, online activities and exhibitions.
Newseum Ed. Collections
With a focus on media literacy and first amendment rights, this website has a variety of tools for students and teachers. Fully searchable.
